VIDEO: MR. NICE GUY WITH ZED KENZO AND DJ DRIPSWEAT
One of our contributors, Ben Slowey, is more than on top of the local music scene. In addition to his work for Breaking And Entering, he also hosts the Mr. Nice Guy podcast, an interview-based show that reaches out to Milwaukeeans for conversations about what motivates them. Many of these shows fittingly involve the local music scene, and we’ll be sharing some of them here as well.
For this episode, Ben sat down with Zed Kenzo and DJ Dripsweat, who regularly collaborate. Zed Kenzo’s debut EP “Baby Swag” and latest single “Michael Blackson” are available on streaming services everywhere. Kenzo had been one of four artists chosen for the music career accelerator Backline in 2018. Dripsweat often spins themed nights around town uplifting marginalized identities. They discussed their creative beginnings, white men dominating creative scenes, Dripsweat’s versatility, Zed’s EP, and being different from everyone else growing up. You can check out more episodes of Mr. Nice Guy on YouTube, and check out this interview below:

The Power of women

Local DJ helps youths pursue alternative music careers
When Dria Rushing was 10 she created her DJ name, DJ DRiPSweat. As she progressed through school she admired hip-hop in all of its forms. She continued to be involved with music through high school.
Rushing, 20, said that since she was little she has wanted to be a DJ. She also knew that the equipment associated with that dream was costly and out of reach.
“One day in high school my mom took me to see a DJ that she knows, DJ O,” said Rushing. Although the meeting went well, it would never go beyond that. “It always was about the equipment and not having it.”
In September, Rushing attended her first “Scratch Session,” a DJ class hosted by Tyrone Miller, aka DJ Bizzon. “Had I never walked in here, I would not be DJing right now,” she said.

Motherfuckin' DJ DripSweat
Last year in November is when Damondria Rushing finally decided to go for one of her childhood dreams.
She created her DJ name at the age of 10: DJ DripSweat.
Somehow she just knew she would be a DJ because people would "always pass the AUX cord" to her.
